Bruno Schulz
The drawings below are part of a series of graphics produced as cliché verre etchings published under the title “The book of Idolatry”. The pictures contain several of Schulz´s favourite topics and obsessions: dreamlike masochism, fetishism, and most importantly: Women as an object of worship and adoration. These prints all revolve around a single subject: ‘the voluntary humiliation of a man before a woman’. Such scandalous, near-fetishistic subject matter meant that Schulz only ever showed them to a select audience of close friends and understanding connoisseurs. The book is for sale on Amazon.
I am in a rather thoughtful mood today so here is a work of art with a somewhat darker tonality than usual. Bruno Schulz was a Polish author and artist with a Jewish background who was killed by the Nazis in 1942. His life was rather tragic. For those of you who are interested in his work and life, you will find more here: http://brunoschulz.eu/en/, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Bruno_Schulz and a collection of his work here: http://www.brunoschulzart.org/
